No Pants Subway Ride 2012

It's that time again, 11th annual No Pants Subway Ride 2012. However, this year was a little different. My friend Lisa came to visit me from Phoenix, Arizona and she had absolutely no idea that she was arriving on the same day that the No Pants Subway Ride was taking place. I purposely planned a late lunch with her and took the same subway routes that I knew that pantless people would be on. Usually, I am involved as a pantless participant, you can see my blog post from it last year here. However, this year was quite fun being on the spectator's side of things. I recorded Lisa's reaction and you have to watch the video for yourself. Let me just warn you, my friend is pretty bold and has absolutely no filter when she talks....which I love about her. She's the type that says exactly what's on her mind or what's on other people's minds but who do not have the guts to say it. So with that in mind, go watch the video below.

Cupcake Liner Organizer

As much as I love baking cupcakes, the collection of cupcake liners can get a bit excessive if you're collection begins to grow throughout the Holidays. Luckily for me, I just baked over 4 dozen cupcakes within the past 2 weeks so my collection is starting to dwindle away (but not for long). I came across an amazing idea thanks to pinterest. Blogger Torie Jayne came up with a brilliant idea to organize her cupcake liners in a spaghetti jar. I had enlisted this idea in my previous blog post: "Happy New Organized Year"

I loved the idea and as soon as I saw it I wanted to organize my liners right away. But wait...I didn't have a spaghetti jar...and it was 2:00am in the night..stores were closed...and I was too impatient to wait till an appropriate time to go to the store to make one. So my mind started quickly thinking of an alternative as I was finishing the last few drops from my 1 liter seltzer water bottle. AHA! A light bulb literally just popped up in my head as I stared at my water bottle. How about a plastic bottle?!?! I was jumping around in the house with joy as Mr. Handsome looked at me as if I had just lost it. haha.

Here are the steps:

You'll need a 1 liter size bottle for this project.

Step 1:
Peel off the wrapper from the bottle

Step 2:
Clean any excess goo stuck on the bottle

Step 3:
Use masking tape as your guide to where you will cut.
You can skip this step and just eyeball it.
But I preferred to make sure it was as even as possible
since my eyeballing skills for cutting is like a 4th grader.
I lied.
A 3rd grader.
haha.

Step 4:
Cut. Cut. Cut.

Step 5:
Remove the tape.

Step 6:
File any sharp edges.
I didn't have any sand paper
(remember it was 2am)
so I just used an extra nail file that I have.
After this process, be sure to wash and dry the bottle.

Step 7:
Decorate!
Don't worry, the glue is dried now.
I was just too excited to take the picture to wait for the glue to dry.

Happy New ORGANIZED Year!

Happy New Year to you all! I hope you all had a great New Year and I wish everyone a great 2012. Do you have any New Years Resolutions? I do. My #1 Resolution was to be more organized. I'm such a busy person (hence the lack of blog posts) so I'm trying to organize my life so that I can have time for other things that are fun...such as blogging. Oh by the way. Blogging and making videos on my YouTube channel was also on my New Years Resolution List. So since Organization is the #1 on my agenda, I figured I'd share with you some cool ideas and tips that I found while searching on Pinterest. I am proud to say that I've already completed some of these on the list. So maybe this list may stir up some ideas for yourself. If you have any New Years Resolutions, I'd love to know what they are...

So for starters, here's 10 organization tips:

1. Organize Cords
I just did this yesterday in my kitchen. Instead, I used a label maker as opposed to a bread clasp. It look so much neater and you don't have to fumble while trying to figure out what cord goes to what device.

2. Organize measuring cups/spoons
This is brilliant!

3. Organize Closet.
Utilize the door to hang your bags.

4. Organize drawers

I did this already. I used to work at Victoria's Secrets and this is exactly how they organized the bras. It saves so much more space and much more pleasing to the eye...and not to mention... organized!

5. Organize hot tools.
Utilize bathroom cabinets with PVC pipes.

6. Reverse hangers.

As much as looking at this annoys me because the perfectionist in me wants to fix and revert everything back its normal order. There is at the end of this...a purpose. At the beginning of the year, turn all the hangers backwards (takes less than a 60 seconds). Everytime you wear something, hang it back to its regular fashion. By the end of the year, if there is still some clothing hung backwards, you have to either throw it out or donate. Unless it's something that doesn't fit you but you plan to wear, get it out of your closet and put in storage until you can wear it. I actually did this on New Years day. It actually forces me to look at my clothes differently and be more creative with my clothing because there are pieces that I would hate to see go.

7. Gift wrapper storage.

Who uses the ceiling space in their closet? I know I do not. As a matter of fact...Christmas is now over and the next time I'll be touching the gift wrapping paper won't be for another 11 months. So why not hang it where it's out of the way. Genius!

8.) Organize closet storage system.

I'm happy that I've finished organizing my closet. I used empty shoe boxes that I decorated.
My closet looks so pretty now.

9. Organize Cupcake Liners
Spaghetti jar to organize your liners? Creative!

10. Organize pictures on a CD

At the end of each month, transfer your photos to a CD to save space on your drive and to act as a back up. Label each CD by the month and year and
use a CD label to symbolize a general idea as to what's on the CD.

DIY: Reindeer Noses

Cute little goodie bag of Reindeer Noses. I was actually inspired to do this after seeing this picture here from Sarah's blog. I put a litte twist to it and make Rudolph with "his nose so bright" with a cute red gem. It was so easy even a kid can do it. Check out the video below. Hope you like it.

10 gifts for HER under $50

So Christmas is around the corner and I know some of you guys were Naughty this year and decided to wait till the last minute to do your shopping. So guess what...I'm going to help you out! Luckily, the benefits of working at Sephora is hearing about the awesome gifts and deals sometimes before they reach the public. Although I do work at Sephora, I am no way in any form getting sponsored or suggested to make such a post. This is all 100% my own opinions and suggestions as a blogger to another blogger.

1.) The Naked Palettes (1 & 2) by Urban Decay

- Naked Palette 2 - $50

If you were around for the frenzy last year when the Naked 1 Palette came out...then you should know about the craziness over the Naked 2 Palette. I remember when the Naked 1 palettes first initially came out....customers were going crazy over these. We would get a shipment of them by the boxes (shown below) and they would sell out in less than 2 hours!! It was crazy!

I bought 5 of them when they first came out for my makeup kit and for myself and a few as Christmas gifts last year. I had tourists who came from out of the states in hopes to get their hands on a palette that unfortunately wasn't available in their country. I felt like the awful bad person who had to the break the news to them when I told them it was sold out. I had one girl cry on me, one husband who flew all the way to New York just to surprise his wife with it, and 2 customers fighting over the last palette. Utter craziness I tell you! You can purchase it now from the Urban Decay website for $50. So I know your question is, when is Sephora releasing the Naked Palette 2. As far as the staff meeting we had, it's "expected" to be online late December and in store late January. So if you want to get it for Christmas, your best bet is to get it from the Urban Decay website. Now what's the difference between the Naked 1 v.s Naked 2? Well, the Naked 1 had a mixture of matte and shimmer eye shadows. It initially came with a sample size Primer Potion and an Urban Decay 24/7 double ended eyeliner in the colors Zero (black) and Whiskey (brown). Then later down the line, they replaced the double-ended eyeliner with an eye shadow brush instead. Now as far as the Naked 2 palette, it's expected to have more neutral colors and includes the eyeshadow brush plus a sample lip gloss. I do love my Naked palette. I use it every time I do makeup for weddings. I don't even reach for my other palettes as much because the Naked palette generally has everything I need. Now if Urban Decay plans to outdo that, then I'm totally amped.- Naked Palette (Original) - $48

Has an array of neutral and dark colors. If you are the type that only likes to wear natural makeup and don't see a use for the dark shadows....then let me give you a tip that I tell my clients. You can use the dark colors as an eyeliner as oppose to just an eyeshadow. I use the dark brown or black depending on my client's eye color and I lightly dust it along their lash line to emphasize their lashes without it looking like they have eyeliner on. You can apply it dry or you can apply it wet with a damp brush to darken the liner. (Available in store & online)
2.) Stila Lip Glaze - $25

Stila Lip Glazes alone cost $22 each....so just for $3 more you get 8! I repeat, you get 8 lip glazes! Should I explain any more? The color payoff is sheer and if you're afraid of the darker color at the far right...relax....they are all sheer. These bad boys usually sell out before Christmas, so if you find one, hold on to it with a solid grip. This makes a great gift for someone, but if you're on a budget or what I like to call,"broke status"....you can divide it in half and give it to 2 individuals as stocking stuffers. (Available in store & online)
3.) Leopard Hair Straightener by Amika - $25

When I first saw this mini straightener, I couldn't believe that they were only $25! They are so cute and come with a travel pouch to keep it conveniently stored. I have one that I use for my bangs or to do quick touch ups when I'm on the go. I bring it with me when I go to gym or when traveling since it's very light weight and doesn't take much space at all. Very easy to travel with. (Available in store & online)
4.) Pink Tourmaline Flat Iron - $48

Pink! Pink! Pink! This is for you pink lovers. However, if you despise the color pink, don't fret, it comes in black as well. YAY! The cord swivels so you don't have to worry about it tangling when using the flat iron as a curler instead. Yes, you can curl your hair with a straightener. I actually prefer it to be honest. 5.) Philosphy: Sweet Kisses & Merry Kisses - $36

This is definitely a great deal. It contains 4 shower gels/bubble bath and 4 high-shine lip glosses in the scents: Sugar Sprinkles Funnel Cake, Peppermint Bark, Pomegranate Bubbly, Old Fashioned Eggnog. You can give this entire set to a special person...but if you're on a budget this year, then you can separate the 4 scents and gift them to 4 special people instead. What a way to stretch a buck! Every year Sephora comes out with a Limited Edition Blockbuster and they sell out like hot cakes! I remember when they first came out I have to admit the eye shadows were not at its best. But years down the road, all I have to say is WoW! They have really improved the quality of the shadows making them so highly-pigmented and so much color. If you own the Coastal Scents 88 Palettes, the colors are very similar. Check out my last blog post on the Coast Scent Palette here. But as a tip, you really need a good eye shadow primer if you want the color pay off in these bad boys. So aside from just talking about eye shadows, the blockbuster contains:

Korres in general is a perfect brand for those who especially have sensitive skin. I love these lip glosses because they are not sticky whatsoever. They are very hydrating and contain Vitamin E & C so they are perfect to wear during the Winter time when you don't want to sacrifice your beauty for chapped lips. Instead, I love wearing these glosses which are sheer in color and nuture my lips at the same time with Vitamins. (Available in store & online)
9.) Bliss - Happy Spa-lidays Scent-sational Set (Limited Edition) - $29

I really like Bliss' products. I have not tried one thing from this brand yet that I have to say that I don't like. My favorite from this brand is their waxing strips for face and body. It's so easy to use, you just rub the strip between your hands like you do when you're trying to warm your hands up and peel the strips apart and place them wherever you may want to wax. I use it for my eye brows. I ended up getting the body strips as well and just cut strips that were feasible for the size that I needed. Okay, I know it was a bit off topic but I had to share that with you. As far as this kit, it comes with a body wash, body cream and loofah. As far as the scent goes since someone had asked me, it is the original scent. The only difference is the packaging of the bottle. (Available in store & online)

10.) Fresh Sugar Fix (Limited Edition) - $22.50

I think this set makes an awesome gift for yourself or someone else. You're practically getting one item for free because the lip treatment is $22.50 and the lip scrub is $22.50 individually. This is perfect for the winter time when you get really chapped lips. You just wet your lips a little and use the sugar scrub to exfoliate your lips and rid of any dead skin and rinse it off leaving your lips super smooth. The scrub is all natural and even edible since it contains brown sugar. Then afterwards, you follow up by applying the lip treatment which nourishes and conditions your lips...also not to forget that it has SPF 15 to provide UV protection. 10-year old Angie Vazquez of Vazquez Sounds

I accidentally stumbled across a YouTube video this morning of 10-year old Angie Vazquez when I was initially looking for Adele's version of "Rolling in the Deep." This came up in my searches and out of curiosity decided to click on it. I'm glad I did!

Angie has an amazing voice and is accompanied with her 2 brothers:
Abelardo age 15 (plays guitar, piano and bass) and Gustavo age 13 (plays drums).

The name of their rock band is "Vazquez Sounds" and they live in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico. Their father who is the producer of Vazquez Sounds helped produce, record and edit the video shown below which made it viral in less than a month. As of today, it has almost 13 million views since they uploaded the video Nov. 10, 2011. That is amazing! It won't be long before you start seeing these 3 pop up on your tv screen. I wish this family many more years of success and my prayers goes out to this lovely family. Please show your support and check out their video.

Organization: Junk Drawer

Junk Drawers. Everyone has one...and it gets overlooked to be organized. Yet, it's the most visited and used drawer in the house. It's the drawer for useful items that do not have a designated home, so it gets thrown in the "junk drawer" (hence the name). But I can't stand when I'm in a hurry and I can't find what I'm looking for! You keep digging and digging and you end up with what ultimately looks like this. JUNK! [sigh]

I went to TJ Maxx during my lunch break and I found this 10-piece drawer organizer for $6.99 which I thought was a sweet deal with the amount of pieces you get with it. The compartments snap on to one another so you can arrange them in any sequence of your choice. I've seen some similar to this but they range a little more. But heck, the price was right, so I grabbed it!

If you find these compartments in TJ Maxx or anywhere else, GRAB THEM! You can even try your local dollar stores as well. However, if you can't find them...I found these organizers just as handy at the Container Store.
It has the ability to interlock and change the arrangement.

When it came down to actually organizing this drawer...I knew that I would get a little overwhelmed when I realized how much junk I had. So to make things a little easier and fun, I took 2 empty shoe boxes and labeled one "YES" for items to keep and the other box "NO" for items to throw or donate. You won't believe how many dead pens are lurking in a junk drawer. It made the task not only easier but fun.

At the end of it all....it was totally worth it! At first the drawer looked so full that I didn't think I would have enough compartments to hold the amount of junk I had. But to be honest....I didn't really throw that many items away other than pens, broken light bulbs, etc and even after all that I had more than enough space for everything and a home for everything now.

Hiking: Bear Mountain

My friends and I went hiking last week at Bear Mountain in Seven Lakes which is in upstate New York. The weather was perfect! If you plan on going hiking up in Bear Mountain...now is the time to go. End of October to beginning of November is the best time to go when the weather is just "cool". It's not too hot and it's not too cold. A couple of the guys brought their girlfriends and it was their first hiking experience. We got lost a little but it was still fun either way. Day After Hurricane Irene in NYC

There was a huge anticipation as well as a preparation for Hurricane Irene in NYC. The city that never sleeps actually was shut down. All the subways, buses and transit were shut down which has only been shut down 2 other times in history...once during the 9/11 tragedy of World Trade Center and the second time was during the MTA Strike.

I woke up the next day to take some footage around the city (shown above). However, the next day most of the water had subsided and all that Irene left was fallen trees. Based on my video some people who do not live in New York made comments such as "oh that wasn't that bad."
So I thought I would show you pictures as well "during" the Hurricane as well as "after." It might have not been "that bad" as some might say, but to be honest, I'm glad it wasn't. I'm glad that New York was as prepared or over prepared because it's better to be safe than sorry.

Besides, Hurricane Irene did not devastate anything but our patience. We are New Yorkers. We are resilient, so we move on with life.

A Gift from Spain

I was surprised to receive a package from one of my dear subscribers and friend Bea who lives all the way in Spain. The funny thing is, she said she had a surprise package filled with things that she made just for me and she wanted to send it in time for Christmas...but after weeks passed after Christmas, we both lost hope and thought that her precious package was lost in the mail. But to my surprise...the package miraculously showed up on time for my BIRTHDAY in February! Nearly 3 months later. Haha.

What a treat to get a package for your birthday. haha. It turned out that the Post Office had lost the package and finally it found its way to my door. Woohoo! Good thing because look at all these amazing things in this box. It would have been a shame to have lost all this given that Bea spent countless hours sewing and painting these awesome aprons.

There's a story behind how it all started. I discovered Bea's amazing talent in painting after she became my subscriber and after months of chatting. It was nice making a new friend across the globe and learning the different cultures based on each others blogs.

She knows how much I love baking and she decided to sew me not just one apron, but THREE aprons with some of her painted artwork on them. How beautiful!! I love all of them. And that ruffle apron is so adorable. I never even owned an apron before and what do you know, I get THREE. I couldn't be more thankful! I love them!

As you can see...they now have a special spot in my kitchen which I now hang next to my pantry!

Bea, you are so talented! You need to be selling your artwork. I can't thank you enough Bea...these totally made my day. Thank you sooooo much!!

Yes I know it's been a long time since I've blogged. But trust me, I've spent my time wisely keeping busy having fun this New Year we now call 2011. It's a little different to hear 2011 roll out the tip of my tongue. But either way, this year has started off great for me. I'm hoping you all are having a great start so far. Well instead of me trying to explain myself of my lack of existence in this Bloggy-Blog world with a bunch of useless excuses....how about I just show you some pictures instead? Here are 5 things that I've done since the last time I've blogged (in no specific order).

#1 My first 3 Tier Fondant Cake
(this is my second fondant cake I've ever made!)

I made my first attempt at making a 3 tier fondant cake. I made it for my friend Sirin's 9 year old daughter Maia's birthday. It is chocolate cake with cream cheese frosting and the fondant is made out of marshmallows. My boyfriend helped me shape the letter "M" out of rice crispies. If you have not seen my very first fondant cake, it was of a lady bug which you can see it here in a previous blog post.

I am pretty proud of myself considering this is my 2nd fondant cake that I ever made. I became inspired to make cakes after watching my favorite show "Cake Boss" and also from my fellow YouTubers Mayen and RylanTy and my Cupcake buddy JellyJan who lives in Thailand (which in due time I will convince her to move to New York heehee...I love her).

#2 Hawaiian Gingerbread House

As corny as it sounds, I've always wanted to build a gingerbread house since I was little. So for Christmas, my boyfriend gave me a GIANT Gingerbread House as a gift. I felt like a little kid on a major sugar high when I received it too.

I didn't want to do the generic gingerbread house so I decided to be different and make a Hawaiian gingerbread house since I love Hawaiian dancing. Here's a couple pictures of my take on it. Check out the video below of the process of it being made. click here to see video

#5 Sephora

I had an interview the day of Fashion Night out at Sephora and after my interview had the opportunity to meet with celebrities such as Kat Von D and YouTube Gurus JulieG713, Fafinettex3, KorenMakeup, WhatStyleIsToNickel, MamiChula8153, NatyMidnight.

There were other celebrities at Fashion Night also at Sephora such as my favorite....Gwen Stefani. She is so fabulous and after 2 kids, let's not forget...beautiful!

Ontop of it all...I ended up getting hired as a makeup artist for Sephora. Woohoo! Yay! With permission from my store director/manager I will definitely let you know if thereis anything new and popping I'll be sure to spread the word.

Working at Sephora has definitely been fun and all the people that work there are amazing. I get asked this question often, "do you get paid commission?" So let me clear the record....the answer is "NO." Sephora employees do not get commission, everything is 100% customer service. So when you get an employee giving you that extra service and you think to yourself "hmm..I wonder if they are getting commission" you can stop right there, because they are commission free. I've always been treated with great quality customer service as a consumer so I was extremely happy when I joined the Sephora team.

So that's just 5 things that have happened since I last blogged. Stay around for many more posts to come.

I finally got my Droid X yesterday! It has been so long since i've gotten myself a new phone. I've been a Blackberry user for so many years...but it was about that time to move onto something new. It was a toss between getting an iPhone or a Droid. But since I already have an iTouch and an iPad....I figured I would get something else" non-apple". Besides, a few of my iPhone user friends moved onto a Droid highly recommended it to me. So after months of contemplating, alas, my new baby! Some people have claimed that it takes a little while to adjust to. But I think its not as difficult to learn how to use as some have stated. I think if you are used to using a Blackberry, an iTouch, iPhone or any touch screen device then this will be breezy easy for you. I mean, I am writing this blog through my Droid X too. Awesome! I'll give further review on it after a couple weeks of usage.

My Life In Short...

I remember when I first made the decision to move to New York, so many people tried to talk me out it. When I quit my corporate job of 8 years, people thought I was crazy. I even had others tell me that I was selfish for leaving. Selfish?!? How so? Because I want to make a better life for myself? I just knew that California wasn't the place for me and I wanted to pursue my love of art elsewhere...and staying in a corporate job behind a desk definitely wasn't the way to go. At least for me it wasn't. So I packed my bags, and made the biggest decision of my life and moved to New York to pursue my love art on a full time basis. Imagine if I actually listened to those negative words that people said to me. All the great things that have been happening to me within such a short span...I would have missed out.

So if you ever have a dream for yourself, don't let those who try to talk you out of it get in your way. If you want to move out of your small comfort zone to accomplish whatever it is in life that's so much bigger...then go for it. The only thing you have full control of in life is the decisions you decide to make for yourself, no one else. And besides, if things don't work out...you always can try again. But you will never know till you go for it and just try. Life is not on repeat. You only live this life once. So live it up, and live it right.

So I leave you with one short sentence of my life...

Duct Tape Burlesque Pasties

My friend Krystal and I had an Arts & Crafts night at my house making Burlesque Pasties. My friend Evelyn likes to call them "Titty Tassles" lol

We were inspired in making them after one of my friends, Gigi La Femme (who is also a famous Burlesque dancer) gave our friend Greg some pasties for his birthday as a joke.

If you follow me on Facebook, you might have seen pictures of Gigi La Femme before. Not only is she a famous burlesque dancer, but she is also Miss Coney Island 2010 here in New York. I did her makeup for a photoshoot this summer (picture to the right). The photographer is one of the best photographers out there, Greg Brophy. You have to check out his amazing work here. His gallery has an array of goodies from Burlesque dancers, beautifal scenery, etc. He even has shot with several celebrities such as singers Kelis and Nelly Furtado to name a few. Working with Greg is always a joy.

Also, if you live in New York or plan on visiting for vacation, you definitely have to check out one of Gigi La Femme's shows. Amazing show! It's totally worth going. It's fun, entertaining and some comedy as well. Just check out the Wassabassco Burlesque dancers in the link here

As for the pasties...Krystal and I had so much fun making them. I made the Ladybug and Zebra print with the bows. Krystal made the Orange blossoms, Zebra print with a rose bud and Mr & Mrs. Pacman. Aren't they so cute?

I have a variety of duct tape colors and patterns as you can see below. I have been making so many things out of duct tape which I will be uploading pictures shortly of more creations to come.

Colorful Leopard Nails

I was inspired to do this rainbow leopard print design after seeing a video tutorial by YouTuber Sayanythingbr00ke's (video below). It requires using the Konad stamping kit which I absolutely LOVE! I bought my Konad kit from WowSoCool about a year ago when I first discovered it by YouTube gurus Petrilude and Sayanthingbr00ke and I have not stopped using them ever since.

When I first purchased them online from WowSoCool, I was expecting to receive my package in about 5-7 days. But the company did better than I had expected. It was shipped to me in 2 days flat. Amazing! Not only that....I was so happy with the product and the shipping that I had to personally write an email of gratitude to the company for my happiness with the product and service. However, I had expected that my email was going to be lost in the world of possible spam and never be read. But to my surprise, I received a response the next day from Jessica. She was so nice and polite and very quick to reply my email. If you follow me on YouTube, then you will know that I had hosted a Halloween Contest last year and WowSoCool sponsored some amazing prizes.

The Konad plate that I used in the design was M57 which happens to be one of my favorites. If you want to learn how to create this look, then watch Brooke's video tutorial below.

Some of you already know that I work a 2nd job as freelance makeup artist so balancing 2 jobs can be a struggle. So lateley I've been real busy working doing both makeup and hair for photoshoots and haven't had as much time to blog as much as I'd like to.

So instead, I decided to make a video to show you a little of what I do and to show you what it's like behind the scenes of one of my photoshoots. So here's a video that I edited of a shoot that I did with Cristian Gomez and Cristal Hernandez. Street Art

I have such an appreciation for all levels of artwork, including street art. If you like street art yourself, then you have to see the documentary film Exit Through the Gift Shop. Its release date was March 2010 and since it's an independent film it is only showing in limited places. It talks about the famous street artists such as Banksy, Shepard Fairey, Space Invaders and others. And before you start saying that you don't know who Banksy & Shepard Fairey are....you might be surprised. You probably came across one of their street arts and just weren't aware of it. For example...

...if you live in New York or have visited New York then you must have already seen this artwork (above left) in Manhattan. Or better yet....this picture (above right) that has the face of the famous wrestler, but deceased, Andre the Giant "OBEY"...both pictures created by Shepard Fairey. Now does it ring a bell?
Banksy is known for his humorous, yet artist stencil artwork such as the one above. It's simple, creative, funny and it tells a story.

Now if you come to my neighborhood in my neck of the woods, there is about 8 blocks of mural sized graffiti street art. Although some people would hate it and find it controversial and label it as pure criminal vandalism that just invites trouble, I for one love it. I took a couple pictures which you can see to the right. Sorry, I took it at night so it's picture quality is not necessarily at its best.

It's an area designated for street art. So yes, all this graffiti is welcomed. Everyday there is always some kind of tourists posing in front of the great walls or a photoshoot going on. You will always see someone spray painting down these streets. Ahhhh....the smell of fresh paint. The best thing about driving down my streets is that you always see something newly painted. So you could never get tired of the artwork. As a matter of fact, every time I drive by it....I am always looking for the newest painting. Oh and yes, Banksy and Shepard Fairey already hit these streets. The next time I get the chance, I'll take a picture of their work and post it up here. So if you see something you like in those streets, you better take a picture of it because tomorrow, it might not be there anymore.

My friend Brenda, who we call "Babs" came to visit from Florida and we took her around her old beloved state of New York. She used to live in New York and misses it a lot so she comes to visit often. We took her Washington Square Park (picture above) which is so beautiful at night. Some of you might have recognized the picture from many movies such as August Rush. The synopsis? Mindy plays the character Violet who is the beloved fruit fly of Manhattan who always hangs out with her gay friends. But given that she's already pushing 40 years old, some of her other friends are getting concerned that she's spending too much time with gay friends and not finding a man for herself. Twilight: Eclipse - My Thoughts

I just saw the movie, Twilight Saga: "Eclipse" (the 3rd movie - trailer bottom of the page). To be honest...I wasn't entirely impressed with it. Sorry to all you Twilight go hard fans. I really really really wanted to love the movie since I was starting to get into it after watching "New Moon" (2nd movie).

I started backwards and watched the movie first, then the book second. I know, I know...some people say read the book first, then watch the movie. But whatever...I like to do it in that order..so there! haha

Don't get me wrong, the movie was still good....but there were certain scenes in the movie that just made me roll my eyes...not only once, but twice. I don't want to release too much information for those who have not seen it already. But one of the reasons I felt this way about it was over Dakota Fanning's role in the movie. I'm not quite sure what it is, but her character just didn't seem to believable, at least to me it didn't. Trust me, I like Dakota Fanning....she is America's little sweetheart that we all watched grow up on the big screen. But there are characters that if you are used to seeing them play a certain role constantly, it takes some adjusting to see them play something completely different. But, who knows...maybe my opinion will change when the next movie "Breaking Dawn" comes out, which is scheduled to release November 18, 2011.

Another thing is, I'm more of Team Jacob fan...and I really don't care too much about Edward. When I watched "New Moon" it ended with Jacob possibly having a chance with Bella....and the way "Eclipse" ended....ugh...it made me disappointed since I'm a Jacob fan and made me just want to bitch slap Bella.

But hey...don't let my personal opinions stop you from watching the movie. My mom always said that if a movie gets you mad at the actors...then that means that they're doing a good job. So was the movie worth the $11.50 that I spent? Um....I would have to say yes. Would I watch it again? No..no..and no.

Lady Bug Cake

I made my very first fondant cake of a Lady Bug. I am super proud of myself on the way it turned out. It has little imperfections since I didn't use any fancy tools to cut and carve this cake. I only used supplies that I already had at home...or better yet, just my clean hands. Check out the video below...

DIY Cookie Cutters

If you have seen my Valentines video on my YouTube channel, I made a DIY (Do it Yourself) on
"How to make a Cookie Cutter." I made a variety of cookie cutters such as: hearts, stars and even our most loved Disney character, Mickey Mouse (which I made for my best friend Joann).

Me Bodypainting

So I've been rather busy these past couple months... working my regular day job as a video editor, then rushing my butt off at night to makeup gigs. I just realized that I haven't been uploading any pictures to my blog to show my readers some of my behind the scenes.

This is a photo that was taken this past weekend of me doing bodypainting at a live event in Brooklyn. Marisa (the model) was wonderful and completely patient during a very long process. It takes a steady hand and a steady model to make this happen.

I'm admiring the editing of this video by Christopher Crutchfield. According the stats of the creation of this video, Chris says:
"Pillows was shot on a Canon T2i using just the kit 18-55 lens and audio was captured using the Zoom H4N. All the post production was done in Final Cut Studio and After Effects. Most of it was shot in 1080/24p but the slow motion sequences were shot in 720/60p and conformed via Cinema Tools to 24p."

Fish Hotel

Since I live in New York City, renting an apartment under someone else's rules can be no fun, when the lease is clearly written in bold letters NO pets allowed.

But what about a fish? And a fish in a hotel? I can never keep a goldfish alive for more than a couple weeks...but if I keep it in a pretty nifty place like this, maybe it can stick around long enough to join me for a cup of coffee?

Sex & the City 2

I was so happy that I was able to watch the movie Sex in the City 2 the day that it came out (May 27, 2010).

Oh by the way, when I went to the AMC theater in Times Square to buy my tickets the day of the release, I found out that they were not even showing the movie. WHAT?!? How is AMC not showing the movie, when we are in New York City, of all places? FAIL!

So, I went to a different theater in Times Square and bought my tickets there with no line, no problem. But right after I bought my ticket....a rush of people came in to buy theirs and the tickets started to sell out. I guess I got lucky.

And as for the movie? I loved every second of it. I was able to relate to so many aspects of the movie which I'm sure so many other women can as well. The things that women talk about in the movie is so realistic because you hear the same stories and issues in real life which made the movie much more enjoyable. It was a realization and comforting feeling to know that all women deal with the same things. But as I grown to learn in life...it's not the challenges or the issues that you need to worry about. It's how you as a person decide how to deal with it. The only thing that wasn't realistic about the movie was what Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) wore everyday while at home. Waking up every morning to 6 inch heels while having breakfast. lol I have to say that Sex in the City 2 was definitely better than Part 1. I hope that there will be a part 3? Maybe? Can I hope...a little? =)

No Pants & No Underwear on the Subway Ride

I'm not even sure if I ever shared this with my bloggers....
but this was the "No Pants on the Subway Ride" here in New York City that I did with my friends and the group that I belong to, Improv Everywhere. A group that's known for causing chaos and happiness in public places. And yes, I did take my pants off. What fun with it be if I didn't? People have asked me if I was shy or embarrassed in any way? Well, I wouldn't say I felt any of those things at all. Given that this was done in January...it was still cold. So I think I was just thinking how hella cold it was. lol But after awhile, you just get used to it. Oh by the way, I edited the first video that you're about to watch...

OMG! They're NAKED!!!!!

Sike! No, not really naked. It just looks like they are...with a little help of video editing. lol Check out the second video here. For April Fools....Improv Everywhere posted a continuation video from the "No Pants on the Subway Ride" but in this case....they blurred out the underwear and posted it on YouTube to trick the viewers to actually think us crazy New Yorkers were actually naked on the subway. LOL But if you pay attention....a lot of the footage used here...was from the No Pants on the Subway Ride Prank. This was in April, who's gonna be wearing hats, scarfs, jackets in April? lol Well, I guess I was able to tell right away since I was in it. lol Enjoy!

New Yorkers v.s. Tourists

An Anonymous artist, mysteriously painted a white line in the middle of the sidewalk between East 22nd and 23rd street...labeling one side "New Yorkers" and the otherside "Tourists." It's a new way to keep New Yorkers from being driven mad by slow-moving tourists.

The "New Yorkers" lane is obviously the fast lane. The "Tourists" lane is a perfect way to keep out of towners from being trampled on when they stop to take pictures.

"I assumed it was some artist that did it. The New Yorkers walk by, but the tourists stop and look."

Bastian Strobel, 20, a visiting student from Germany, was not insulted.

"I think it's funny," he said. "I was already on the tourist side anyway, so I'll stay there."

Bianca Smith, 32, a receptionist, liked the idea.

"New York tourists are annoying. They stop, look around, take pictures and hold me up," she said. "I don't know if the lanes could be enforced, but it would be nice. For now, I'll just keep walking around them."

I just found out through a Facebook friend, that....
"As of today, there is a new privacy setting called "Instant Personalization" that shares data with non-facebook websites and it is automatically set to "Allow." Please read what this will do, some folks might want the new web experience but I do not.

I read more about it on Facebook's FAQ and according to Facebook, it says:

"We're [Facebook is] working with select partners to enable a personal and social experience the moment you arrive on their websites. When you're logged in to Facebook, these sites can personalize your experience using your public Facebook information."

I don't know about you....but I don't need anyone helping me out or personalizing my experience on Facebook.

I'm so glad my brother in law bought my sister a camera for Christmas, because now....I can enjoy watching videos she posts of my nieces Serena and Alyna all the time now. We live across the country. Well...ever since my neighbors upstairs recently changed their flooring from carpet to wooden flooring...my life hasn't been the same ever. How dramatic do I sound right now? lol No, but seriously, it gets rather annoying and I find myself groggy during the day and wanting to take a nap. During days when I work from home, I find that it's easier for me to sleep during the day when the neighbors have left for work and it's nice and quiet. that way I can catch some Z's..then later on after my nap, work at night from home. But I'm hoping I will get used to it soon so I can have a good nights rest. Finally. ZZzzzz....

Diggy Simmons

Remember Daniel "Diggy" Simmons? Yes, the son of Rev Run from the MTV show "Run's House." Well if you don't know this cute little 14 year old, that's him in the picture to the right with the glasses along side his little brother, Russy.

Well, I was reading Diggy's blog and he uploaded a music video recently titled, "Made You Look." It's actually pretty good! (see video below).

I'm a little surprised to see how much he's grown since I've watched him practically grow up on the show. WOW! I've always been fond of the show. The family is so adorable.

Diggy is also very much into fashion just like his sisters, Vanessa and Angela. He blogs about fashion all the time! He blogs about fashion shows that he goes to regularly and even posts fashion for women. I guess that's why I like to read his blog. I would say his style is like turning the Nerdy Geek into Sleek. I think that would be a perfect description to explain his fashion sense.

I made a video on my Valentines Day Cookies which my friends and family loved. I actually made the cookies using a DIY Cookie Cutter that I made. To learn how to make your own cookie cutters, click here for the tutorial video. Also, I found this really cool website that gave FREE recipe cards to print (shown below). I thought that was pretty handy and had to share it with you. Hope you all had a great Valentines Day!

Here are the ingredients:

1 stick of butter (1/2 cup) at room temperature
3/4 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 1/2 cup flour
1 tsp milk
1 cup of powdered sugar
Piping bag for frosting (or use a ziplock bag and just cut a tiny hole at the tip)
Food coloring
Jolly Ranchers (or any hard candy)

Sony HDR-CX100 High Definition Handy Cam Review

I've been looking for a new camera that takes HD quality videos to replace my Canon 750. So the don't be surprised if I blog about a few cameras or camcorders. I'm comparing reviews and test videos till I find the right camera worth purchasing. So far....I saw this camcorder, which is the Sony Handycam HDRCX100 HD Camcorder. I'm looking for something relatively small enough to travel with. The thing that I like about this camera is that it requires flash memory cards which eliminates the use of cords, making it a little more user friendly. Apparently, this is Sony's 1st flash based camera. YAY! The battery lasts up to 7 hours which is GREAT! It also takes regular point and shoot camera shots which is a plus. It's touch screen. And ontop of it all...it's small enough that it fits in the palm of your hand.

I love my crazy fun loving family. One thing about my family that you will know right off the bat is that we are a bunch of comics. Every time you get us together....it's nothing but a bunch of LOUD people getting together with laughs, jokes, and just all around humor.

Kanye West Was Banned from Haiti Telethon

The Haiti Telethon that recently passed last Friday which was started by George Clooney, purposely banned Kanye West in having any part of the fundraiser. A source said: “After what [Kanye] said on the Katrina telethon and the way he behaved towards Tyler Swift at the MTV Video Music towards, everyone agrees it’s just best that he does not participate.”

To be honest, even though I'm a fan of his music, Kanye does seem to have the reputation of making everything always about himself. He will do just about anything to steal the spotlight and, well, with everything that's going on in Haiti, this is just not the time to be doing all that...

Imma let you finish, but how do you feel about this?

International Fashion and Inspiration

When I see a picture in a magazine of an outfit or colors that inspire me, I cut it out and post it the refrigerator with a cute magnet. I'll get ideas and inspiration just from a picture alone. Then I'll eventually replace it with another picture and put the old one along with my other collection of inspired pictures. I like looking at magazines from other countries and get ideas from all over the world. I like to see what the fashion is like outside of the U.S.A. such as these Japanese and Korean magazine clippings I posted below. It's fun to see the similarities and the differences when it comes to fashion.

Apple Announces the iPad

A guy named Wesley whose YouTube username is "CapriPrimal" came up with an idea back in November 2007 of a fake MAC product that he called the "iPad."
Today, January 27, 2010, Apple announced a new product that they also call the "iPad" which is pretty similar to Wesley's idea. Hmm....coincidence? Did the guy get credit for it? Who knows. But, watch the first video of Wesley's idea in comparison to Apple's video below.

But anyways...about the product. I had a conversation with my friend Mary and one of our biggest concerns was about the screen scratching. Ugh! I hate scratches on my iPhone, let alone on a huge iPad. But I looked at the accessories and discovered that there is an iPad Case that not only protects the screen but can be used also as a stand in an upright position to watch movies or in slanted position for the ease of typing, etc. Nice! That solves my concerns there.

I was also pleased to know that you can import photos directly from your SD memory card and the battery life last up to 10 hours. As big as it is, you would think it would weigh a ton. But it's actually pretty light, just a little over a pound. The size of it is slighter smaller than a sheet of 8x10 paper and definitely smaller than the Kindle.

But other than that....I don't know if I'm entirely sold on this product. I just got my iTouch for Christmas from my boyfriend and I can honestly say that I'm completely happy with that. =) But, I'm still waiting on the news when Apple finally ends their contract with AT&T and moves on to Verizon. It's about that time....

If you know fashion, then you must know of the designer Rodarte who is known for his high fashion runway shows. If you never seen any of his fashion shows before, watch the video below. I had heard about this back in November and totally forgot to blog about this until I was cleaning up my computer and was reminded by a picture I had saved on my desktop of Rodarte. He launched his designs at Target last month for only a limited time. How much time do you have? Well, not much. He only intends to have his designs in Target until January 31, 2010. I grabbed 4 pairs of the leggings a couple weeks ago. Now if only they sold Rodarte's designer shoes at Target....ahhh. Okay, maybe i'm asking for too much.

Plus Size Models in V Magazine

I heard about this a few months ago and it's very exciting to see it finally take place. V Magazine launched a spread of plus size models. It's about damn time! Because honestly, I think women look best embracing their natural luscious curves.

If you look at the next 3 pictures, just look at the comparison of size and what a difference it makes. So much more curves and shape is much more pleasing to the eye.

Have you ever looked at the ingredients of the cosmetics you purchase and have a hard time pronouncing them let alone have an idea what it is? Well if so, then you might want to keep reading...

There is this website that I found out through one of my beauty friends, Charmaine.
The website is called Skin Deep. (www.cosmeticdatabase.com)

This website is a great tool to take advantage of because as scary as it sounds, companies are allowed to use almost any ingredient they wish, and our government doesn't require companies to test products for safety before they're sold. Environmental Working Group of scientists built Skin Deep to be a one-of-a-kind resource, integrating an in-house collection of personal care product ingredient listings with more than 50 toxicity and regulatory databases.

How it works:

1.) Search for either: Cosmetic Brands, Ingredients, and/or Products (see picture for example)
2.) Once you search the item that you're looking for, you'll be provided a long list of ingredients.
3.) A definition of each ingredient is explained and any possible toxicities it may cause, such as: cancer, allergies, violations, etc.
4.) Each ingredient will be rated as score to show any level of hazardness, for example:

- Items Rated 0-2 = low hazard
- Items Rated 3-6 = moderate hazard
- Items Rated 7-10 = high hazard

I am always conscientious of the type of products that I use on my face after experience of working with my mom in her Beauty Day Spa. My mom has her esthetician license and through her I learned a lot of damages that certain products can do to your face. So I thought that this was a great website for everyone to know about. =)

Beatles Wall Art

My boyfriend and I have been looking for artwork to put right above our couch in the living room.

We've tried different types of artwork, mostly handmade. We would try it out and hang it above the couch for a few weeks to see how it goes. But nothing seemed like it fit in the living room.

But I think I like this artwork. Plus, I love The Beatles. My favorite song is "Blackbird" and if you love The Beatles as much as I do, then you have to watch the movie "I Am Sam" because the entire movie soundtrack is all of their songs. What do you think of this artwork? It's handmade.

I just had to share this video to you of my friends Chris and Melanie getting engaged. Chris, who lives in San Francisco, CA used to call me all the time for advice when he was first with his long distant girlfriend Melanie who is from the Netherlands. We both shared the same story of being in a long distant relationship with someone across the country (in his case, on the other side of the world) lol.

He would always contact me for advice when it came to dealing with a long distant relationship...or for ideas on things to do. Ideas such as "movie night." We both had the same struggles of people doubting a long distant relationship from both friends and family.....and to be honest, it doesn't matter what anyone else things....so long as it makes you happy.

So this goes to show, that long distance relationships do work out.

On top of that, Chris contacted me and is inviting me to the wedding and wants me to fly to San Francisco. I thought it was actually funny cuz I was telling him that yesterday my boyfriend wants to fly me to San Francisco for my birthday which is around the same time as his wedding (but actually on my boyfriend's birthday too). haha. Go figure!

Nail Polish Favorite - Domestic Goddess

My future sister-in-law Cindy got me this bottle of nail polish for Christmas and I just love the color. It's Sephora by O.P.I and the color is called Domestic Goddess.

I put this color on Christmas Day December 25th with no top coat....and 3 days later December 28th, it's still looking pretty good even without a top coat.

Help Portrait - New York 2009

As Christmas is just 2 days away...we have to remember the most important things in our lives and to not forget to show gratitude for what we have. Because as easy it is for things to be given to us...whether it be a job, a home, or a family...those same things can easily be taken away.

This is my first Christmas not spending it with my family since I moved across the country. And instead of feeling sad about it...I really wanted to do something this year to help others. My uncle and I used to go to different shelters to feed the homeless during the holidays. While everyone was at home with their family enjoying their holiday hot meals...my uncle and I were out feeding the homeless on our holiday.

I wanted to do something special again this year being that I'm now living thousands of miles away from my own family. So this is what I decided to do. (watch video below).

Help Portrait is a movement of photographers who are using their time, equipment and expertise to give back to those who are less fortunate.

I was very honored to be able to work as the makeup artist with a group of fabulous and talented photographers. I enjoyed every second of it. And the end result, was amazing.

So if you know iJustine on YouTube, she's inviting her subscribers to be a part of her Christmas video. She requested her subscribers to submit a video response "opening up a Christmas gift and not liking what they got for Christmas." I'm not sure what kind of Christmas video iJustine is coming up with...but i'm pretty sure it's going to be something funny. Well, most of the videos that were submitted were mainly people "acting"...but this one girl who submitted a video, pranked her little sister. The video below shows her true reaction of a Christmas gift that she didn't want.

In case you're wondering what it was that she got, it was an eraser for the top of a pencil.

It was called "Guerrilla Handbell Strikeforce"

Charlie Todd, (the creator of IE) got a hold of a bell choir and decided to have them play next to the Salvation Army guy ringing his tiny bell. The Salvation Army guy had NO idea what was going on and you could see the confusion in his face.

But it was funny to see the reactions on people's faces. And that's exactly what we look for. Smiles and reactions!

West African Dancing

If you're like me, the thought of working out by running can seem dreadful especially if you're not a fan of running to begin with. I like to incorporate activities in my workout. I would rather attend a dance or aerobics class to get my fitness on.

When I lived in California, I was part of a Halau, which is in Hawaiian means Hawaiian Dance School. I loved it! I danced for several years. I practiced 2-3 times a week for 2 hours and even had performances. My Kumu (Hawaiian dance teacher) was very strict in a good way and was set in making sure that every move that his students did was in sync and to perfection. It was so much fun and not to mention I lost a lot of weight in just a matter of weeks due to vigorous dance moves.

So many people have asked me where I got the name "QueenLeilani" from. Well, it was my Kumu who gave me that name. When you are part of a Halau, you must "earn" your name. He gave me the name "Leilani" which means "God's heavenly flower." But later down the road, my friends started calling me QueenLeilani instead...so that name just stuck around.

Well, now that I live in New York, I haven't found a Hawaiian dance group that I want to join yet. I have done a lot of research and just have not found the right group yet. So in the meantime, I found a FREE dance class for West African Dancing. Yes, that's right....African Dancing. It's something that I have never done before. Since I'm a former dance teacher and have been exposed to all types of dancing, I can honestly say that this is one style of dancing that I have not tackled yet. The thought of the challenge enlightens me. So a friend and I will be going this week.
